Chronicle of Chicago #2

Thanksgiving came and left.

Friday was nice. We ended up sleeping in until about 3 or so. By the time we were ready to go for the day it was already dark outside. (no we don't take forever to get ready, it gets dark here by about 4) We ventured out to buy a dvd player and get some Chipotle. So we did. And it was good. While we were there we played some more gripe rummy, and my beginners luck was sill with me. I smoked him. We headed back to the dorm and ended up watching futurama and finishing up arrested development. I ended up playing my guitar and singing in the bathroom for about 30 minutes at about 4 A.M.

It's funny how you forget entire days when you just lay around and do nothing.

We have actually spent the majority of our time watching the show "arrested development", futurama, eating, sleeping and playing cards. What more could you ask for in a vacation.

Chronicle of Chicago #1

I made it to Chicago without any problems. I flew from OKC to Salt lake city to Chicago. Seeing the sun rise over the Rocky Mountains from the plane was awesome.

Kurt met me at the airport and then we had a train ride to North Western that took about an hour. We had dinner at Chipotle with Amanda and played some cards. Then we went back to Amandas place and I pwned them in a game of gripe rummy. The score was me:10 to Amanda:160 to kurts whopping 320. You may think "Oh well Kurt had a great score". But you see gripe rummy is scored like golf is, the lower your score the better. So yea like I said before Kurt got pwned.

Thanksgiving morning we woke up at about one in the afternoon. Then proceeded to eat lucky charms, hot pockets and some krispy kream we found in the trash can! It was a wonderful breakfast. Now we are headed to watch some football and play some splinter cell 3.

Tune in tomorrow for more of the Chronicle of Chicago.

Two things: Cops and spandex

Last night at wildwood we had a dodgeball tournament! It was pretty fun. My team ended up tying for 3rd place. Not too shabby eh.

So after the tourney a few of us went over to IHOP for some dinner. During dinner Jessica and I decided that since she got her learners permit that I should teach her how to drive a standard. So in some random neighborhood we swapped seats. She did really well for someone who barely knows how to drive. Actually she did well for a while, then somehow she managed to kill the truck when we were making a turn. So for about the next five minutes she worked on getting the truck started and moving again.

Three things I failed to realize:
1. When the truck died, the headlights were pointing straight at someone's house.
2. It was well after midnight when all this happened.
3. People call the cops when loud trucks sit in front of their house for several minutes after midnight.

Finally she got the truck started and moving again and we made it to the end of the street. We sat at the stop sign, I looked over and saw headlights coming our way. Jokingly I said "Oh no It's the cops!" Jessica didn't think this was funny. The police car pulled up and for what seemed like an eternity sat next to us. Finally he pulled away. We then pulled the truck around the corner, quickly switched places and got out of that neighborhood.

So I learned a couple of things last night:
1. If you are going to teach someone how to drive a standard, don't do it after midnight.
2. Don't sit there with your headlights pointed at someone's house after midnight, they might call the cops.
3. Wearing spandex shorts while playing in a big dodgeball tournament is fun.

Lora

I'm not sure if you know my baby sister Lora, but you should. She is actually a weird kid. Weird in a good way. Check out her Regular Blog and her Poetry Blog.

The purpose of this post isn't to say that I like my sister, but to say how incredibly talented she is. It is amazing to hear the music she writes and to see the art that she draws. I can't share that part of her talent with you over the internet, but you can see her poetry. I will be amazed if you read one of her poems and can keep from being moved spiritually.

So check out her poetry page and see for yourself.

If you remember a few posts back I showed pumpkins that Allie, seth and I made. Well a couple of weeks later this is what they look like. I personally think they look like senior citizens that don't have their teeth in.

Don't you just love it?

Today at work I built 3 computer systems, and 3 times windows XP would not install. Here's how the day went.

Since during install several files on the windows disk could not be read, it appeared that the CD-ROMs were messed up. After going through 3 drives I decided that this probably wasn't the bad part.

Next I decided to flash the BIOS with an updated version, because the board we were using (Asus K8V-MX) had known BIOS problems when used with the processor (Sempron 64 2600+). So I flashed the BIOS with the latest updated version. By the grace of God this fixed one of them.

But I still had 2 down, and had the customers breathing down my neck. I had to get those last two working.

After several attempted installs with different configurations I decided to change the memory I was using to a different brand. IT WORKED!! Finally after 5 hours of pulling out my hair (maybe that's why I'm going bald?) we figured out the problem. We had a batch of new memory that was made by a company called AVA. Their memory only works with our Asus board about half of the time. Luckily we had some of our old memory made by Micron in the bottom of our bin. I was able to pull the last 2 sticks we had and make everything work.

Here is the funny part. About 3 hours after I had figured out the answer to our problem someone from our main store in Texas calls me up and says "Hay I just wanted to warn you that you might run into some compatibility issues with the AVA ram and our Asus Motherboards".

That was nice of him to let me know.

Today was fun. I'm just glad it's almost over.
